MY AC IS LEAKING WATER
"MY AC IS LEAKING WATER"
"The air
conditioner is leaking water again!" Sounds familiar? Very often with
encounter this issue with the air conditioning. We come home from a trip
and find that our house is soaked in water; we start to check for the source of
the problem and see that water is coming from the air handler.
The first thing that
comes to our brain is how much this is going to cost us? Yeap, it can be costly
if you call an air conditioning company if you call after regular hours.
Well, this blog deals with situations just like this one, I am here to help you
save hundreds of dollars and repairs, stick with me and I will show you how.
Now I am going to show
step by step how you can solve this problem if ever arises with your air
conditioning system.
- turn off you air conditioning
- get some towels, and mop all the water
- remove your filter, if the filter is soaked throw away
- if your ac is leaking water this means that the float
switch is missing or is defective
- if you don't know what a float switch look like i will
show you a photo below
- next to the drain you will have an small drain with two
wires coming out usually if we remove this cover we can see inside if full
of water, if it is full of water the float switch may be defective
- now the drain sometimes comes undone at the joints, tap
the main pipe away from the joint to loosen
- if the pipe comes undone prepare to put a bucket under
to collect the water
- Now how you are going to clear the drain? 1. You can
use a shop vacuum if you have one, 2. if you have a water hose by all
means use it
- what to do: with the shop vacuum take the hose and insert the pipe inside
of it, make sure you wrapped the tip to allow better sucking
- if you need to use the hose your best bet is to have a
nozzle to control the water flow preferably one that has a pointed end,
insert the tip of the nozzle and wrap the tip of the nozzle with plastic
bag and hold firmly with your hand, press the nozzle trigger and hold form
a minute until you fill the pressure released. These two steps should clear
the drain.
- Now for the fun part reinstall the drain to its normal
position
- don't forget to install a new a fresh filter and call a
competent ac company to replace or install a new float switch
